Southern has teamed up with car sharing scheme Liftshare.com to launch its own car sharing website.
Southern hopes the site will encourage some of its passengers to reduce their environmental impact by sharing the car element of their journey to and from the station with others.
The inspiration for the scheme comes from Southern’s Station Travel Plans which were developed with passengers, stakeholder groups, and local authorities. Project Manager Feras Alshaker said: “We are committed to reducing not only our environmental impact, but that of our passengers. The added benefit of the scheme is that passengers can reduce the cost of their car fuel bill by sharing their car with other passengers.”
Southern’s car share scheme is available to anyone who travels to and from its stations- commuters, students, people on the school run, football supporters, festival goers, tourists, employees - anyone! Joining the scheme is simple and completely free. All passengers have to do is register their details to be ready to start posting journeys and searching for suitable matches.
Feras added: “There will be launch events in the evening at Upper Warlingham, Redhill, and Three Bridges stations next month where passengers can talk to representatives of Liftshare.com about the scheme.”
Dates for the launch events are:
- 9 July Upper Warlingham
- 10 July Redhill
- 11 July Three Bridges
Passengers can visit the Southern car share website at southernrailway.liftshare.com.
