About the South Downs

The magnificent stretch of coastline between Seaford and Eastbourne and inland to the A27 is designated and protected as a ‘Heritage Coast’, one of the finest examples of unprotected chalk cliffs in Britain which includes the famous Beachy Head and Seven Sisters cliffs.  Inland, the rolling landscape of the South Downs and the meanders of the Cuckmere Valley offer beautiful views and delightful walks.

Leave your car behind so you can really explore and experience the tranquillity of the South Downs by bike or on foot, in the knowledge that you are also helping to reduce traffic congestion and protect the Heritage Coast’s special landscape.  Travel around the Eastern South Downs and enjoy spectacular scenic walks, easy access trails and some of the most superb cycle routes in the country.
