Charities and Fundraising
Southern supports local charities based in communities around our network. We lend our support to two corporate charities, St. Catherine’s Hospice and Rockinghorse, who as our corporate charities share a £1 charitable donation for every annual season ticket sold online.
Rockinghorse
Rockinghorse, our employee chosen charity, makes life better for sick and disabled babies, children and teenagers across Sussex and Surrey. Many of those who Rockinghorse support are living with life-threatening conditions, profound physical or learning disabilities, mental health problems or have complex medical needs. To learn more about Rockinghorse visit rockinghorse.org.uk.
Southern and Rockinghorse supports London 2 Brighton Challenge
We are supporting the London 2 Brighton Challenge on the 12 and 13 May 2012, in recognition of our corporate charity Rockinghorse. Whether you walk, jog or run this 100km challenge inspired by the popular journey from London to Brighton, it will be a test of endurance and determination.
To show our support for Rockinghorse and the London 2 Brighton Challenge, Southern is offering participants an exclusive fare home on Sunday 13 May 2012.
Paul Kwatia, Fundraising Manager at Rockinghorse Children’s Charity said "this innovative partnership is a fantastic example of how businesses can really make a difference to their community by working in conjunction with charities. We are extremely grateful to Southern Railway for their continued support of our work."
More details about the event and how to sign up can be found at london2brightonchallenge.com.
St Catherine’s Hospice
St. Catherine’s Hospice provides hospice care, free of charge, to people living in Crawley, Horsham, Mid Sussex and East Surrey. They critically rely on voluntary donations and legacies; each year they need to raise £4.7m in voluntary income.
Southern supports St. Catherine’s with a donation raised from selling online annual season tickets. We also supported their Midnight Walk in June 2011 and for the second year running Southern has sponsored the St. Catherine’s Santa Run which took place on 20 November 2011 in East Grinstead and in Caterham.
Employee Fundraising
As well as supporting our corporate charities, we encourage and support our employees to fundraise for other local charities.
Charity Collections
We allow fundraising to take place at our stations. If you would like to fundraise at a Southern station please contact customer services with your charity details.
Donations
We support charitable organisations on and around our network. As we have a limited budget for donations, we focus our support on issues that are important to our local communities.
