Welcome to the latest Southern News. This installment contains updates from across the network as well as news from your local area.
I’m pleased to report that we’ve been very busy over the last six months delivering many improvements to our stations and to our trains. There’s great news also in that we’ve contracted with train manufacturer Bombardier to supply us with the 130 additional carriages we need to provide longer trains (and therefore more seats) when the 2013 December timetable is introduced.
We’re continuing to invest in improving your experience at our stations and we’ve upgraded – and in many cases introduced for the first time - waiting rooms and toilets across the network. We’ve also installed additional ticket machines and in a first for us, installed real-time bus information screens at many of our stations to assist with onward travel.
We’ve also started a three-year programme to completely refurbish the interiors of our fleet of Class 377 Electrostar trains at the rate of one train per week. As I write, we have around 20 newly refurbished trains running on the network and I hope you’ll agree that the high-quality finish gives the feel of a brand new train.
I hope you enjoy reading the news from Southern and also the news specific to your area. If you have any questions or concerns about Southern or Gatwick Express, please feel free to contact our Customer Services department
Look out for another update in six months time.
