Fares changes
The annual changes to rail fares on the Southern network come into effect from Saturday 2 January 2010.
Regulated fares
The changes are based on the RPI (retail price index) figure for July 2009, which was -1.4%. The Department for Transport (DfT) permit Southern to increase total regulated fares by RPI + 1%, therefore a decrease of -0.4% overall on regulated fares (subject to roundings).
This means Southern customers can expect to enjoy frozen and/or cheaper fares when purchasing regulated tickets in 2010.
Non regulated fares
Non regulated fares (most leisure fares) will rise by an average of 4%. This will include:
- Off-Peak Day Single and Returns
- Off-Peak Day Travelcards
- Super Off-Peak ‘Pricebuster’ fares
- Some Anytime Day Single and Returns
- Some Off-Peak Returns
Save 15%
To counteract the unregulated fare increases, Southern are giving customers the opportunity to purchase these tickets online and save 15% - making the fare lower than the 2009 price!
Simply search for the ticket you require, if it is an unregulated fare and the price has increased, a 15% discount will applied therefore reducing the price below the 2009.
