You are here: Home > Tickets & fares > Ticket types > Advance tickets
Advance train tickets are designed for specific one-way journeys which can be booked up to 12 weeks in advance. There are a range of routes available across the Southern network as well as across many other rail networks, which make finding the cheapest train ticket for your journey that much easier.
Train tickets are quota controlled, and can sometimes sell out fast! The sooner you book, the more likely you are to get your ticket at the cheapest price. Tickets must be booked before 6pm the day before you wish to travel, but we would recommend you book early to avoid missing out.
You can buy your Standard or First Class Southern Advance train ticket at your local Southern ticket office for the standard price, but if you buy your Southern Advance train ticket online you can save up to 10%. These tickets are available on selected routes across the Southern network.
