Advance tickets are designed for one-way journeys which you book for a specific train (and connections). If you know what time you wish to travel and can commit to that time, you can make big savings for your journey! There are Southern Advance tickets available across many journeys on the Southern Network, as well as combined Southern & London Midland tickets and Southern & South West Trains tickets for longer distance journeys too.

Terms and Conditions
Reservation coupons and travel tickets
Advance tickets are only valid with the reservation coupon/coupons issued to you for your journey, as well as your overall travel ticket. Your reservation coupon/coupons contain the date, time and details of any reserved leg/legs of your journey. Your overall travel ticket shows the origin, destination and details of the fare you have paid for your complete journey. You must keep both of these parts with you at all times.
If you board a train service for the reservable part of your overall journey that is not marked on your reservation coupon, or you no longer have the reservation coupon with you, you will be treated as not having a valid ticket for your journey. You will have the purchase another ticket for your journey, and if you do not do so may be liable to pay a Penalty Fare.
Subject to availability bookings can be made up to 12 weeks in advance and bookings close at 6pm on the day before travel. Southern Advance tickets are not available on Public Holidays.
Advance ticket availability may be reduced or withdrawn on certain dates due to engineering works or events across the network. For further information, contact Southern customer services.
First and Standard Class travel
Tickets are valid for either Standard or First Class accommodation as specified on the ticket. Upgrading to First Class Advance from Standard Class Advance tickets is not available.
Break of journey
No break of journey (exiting and re-entering an intermediate station to continue your journey after a break) is permitted in any direction on Southern Advance tickets, except for the purposes of making immediate train connections.
Railcard discounts available include 16-25, Disabled, Family & Friends, HM Forces and Senior Railcards. Network Railcard and group discounts are not available.
Amendments and refunds
Amendments can be made to Southern Advance tickets, however as the Advance Fares are quota-controlled and subject to availability you may have to purchase a higher priced Advance ticket or even a Single ticket (valid for a range of trains) to pay for the journey you now wish to make.
Amendments are subject to a £2 administration fee when amending your ticket online and must be made at least 5 postal days prior to travel. Amendments are subject to a £10 administration fee per ticket at a ticket office and must be made at least 24 hours prior to travel.
Please note that all amendments can only be posted or carried out at a Southern ticket office. There is no option for Ticket on Departure; however you do have an option for Next Day Special Delivery.
