We have an annual investment programme for access improvement which we develop using feedback from passengers, comments from staff and through regular access audits of our stations. If you have any suggestions of access improvements that could be made to your local station or stations you travel through please get in touch.
This year our proposed plan is to invest in the following areas:

- Step free access to platform 2, accessible toilet at adjustable height ticket office window at Hackbridge
- Lift and adjustable height ticket office window at Redhill
- Ramp and adjustable height ticket office window at East Dulwich
- Adjustable height ticket office window at Haywards Heath
- Handrails to ramp at Selhurst
- Meeting point signage - all stations
- Handrail at Balcombe
- Hearing loops attached to announcements several stations
- Additional platform to train ramps
- Information and guides for passengers
- Ramp and accessible parking at Wivelsfield
- Adjustable height ticket office windows Horsham
- Handrails to slopes Whyteleafe
- Handrails to platform Kenley
- Accessible toilet Thornton Heath
- New ticket office window (adjustable height) Durrington
- Introduction of ramp to subway to enable step free access at Emsworth
- Adjustable height ticket office window at Barnham and Gatwick Airport
- Handrails to ramp at Caterham
- Accessible toilet at Billingshurst
- Handrails to steps and help points at East Grinstead

- More maps for all stations - Brighton, Haywards Heath, and Redhill
- Removal of steps/introduction of ramps at Carshalton, Carshalton beeches & Shoreham by Sea

- Stair nosings and handrails at Norbury and Polegate
- Increased information provision
- Accessible toilet and communication device at Hampden Park
- Ramp to the southbound platform at Preston Park
- Automatic doors at Shoreham by Sea
- Handrails at Tadworth
- Adjustable height ticket office windows at Horsham
- Removal of step at Godstone
- Stair nosing improvements at Sutton
- Additional accessible toilet to our network
2010-2011
- Accessible ticket office window and automatic doors
- A ramp at Tadworth for step free access to both platforms
- Maps for All at key stations
- Anti slip surfacing on highlighted ramps
- More stair visibility work at key stations
- More handrail installations
- Updated access guide
- Exploration into information PODs for passengers
- More dropped kerbs at drop off points
- Improved accessible parking bays
- Portable hearing loops at manned information points on platforms
2009-2010
- Improving stair visibility at key stations through replacing coloured strips on the nosings and introducing tactile paving at the top and bottom of stairs
- Introducing handrails to many stations where there was a ramp or long incline to gain access to platforms or entrances
- Improving or introducing accessible toilets
- Introducing the first Changing Places toilet at a railway station
- Introducing automatic doors to some waiting areas or entrances where there were manual doors previously
- Improving drop off areas by introducing dropped kerbs and hatching
- Introducing a power assisted door where doors to facilities were heavy
- New access guide with pull out stations access map and information card
Major work (for example lift introductions) is generally undertaken by Network Rail often with investment by the Department for Transport. Stations on the Southern network that have or are benefitting from this are: Balham, Three Bridges, Streatham Hill, Streatham Common, Oxted, Purley, Horley, Dorking, Thornton Heath, and Hassocks.
