Improvement works

From time to time, often at weekends or public holidays, Southern Railway have to make alterations to train services, usually for planned Improvement works.

Buses replace trains between Three Bridges and Brighton between 01:00 and 05:00 each night from Tuesday 28 to Friday 31 March

 

Network Rail are carrying out engineering work between Three Bridges and Haywards Heath, closing the lines.

The following services will be replaced by buses between Three Bridges and Brighton:

Monday - Thursday

23:32 London Victoria - Brighton

Tuesday to Friday

01:00 and 04:00 London Victoria to Brighton

03:50 Brighton to London Victoria

An additional service will run from Brighton to Worthing at 02:02.

Amended service between London Bridge / New Cross Gate and Crystal Palace / West Croydon on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 April

 

Network Rail are carrying out engineering work between West Croydon / Dalston Junction and Crystal Palace, closing the line.

Customer Advice:

London Overground until 08:30 on Saturday and 10:30 on Sunday, no London Overground trains will operate between Clapham Junction, New Cross and New Cross Gate to Dalston Junction and Highbury and Islington.

Customers should use local buses and London Underground services via all reasonable routes.

All weekend, there will be no service between New Cross Gate and Crystal Palace / West Croydon. Customers should use the Southern rail replacement buses between London Bridge and West Croydon via Crystal Palace.

All weekend Southern trains between London Bridge and West Croydon / East Croydon / Crystal Palace via Sydenham are replaced by buses between London Bridge and Norwood Junction

On Saturday, trains between London Victoria to London Bridge are diverted to terminate / start at Tattenham Corner and will not call at stations between Crystal Palace and London Bridge.

On Sunday, trains between London Bridge and Crystal Palace are extended to terminate / start from Tattenham Corner.

Trains between London Bridge and Tonbridge will run between Redhill and Tonbridge. Customers should use other replacement buses / trains between London Bridge and Redhill

Trains between London Bridge and Uckfield will run between East Croydon and Uckfield.

Network Rail are carrying out engineering work between Tulse Hill and Wimbledon via Tooting / Sutton via Mitcham Junction, closing all lines.

Thameslink trains will not run between Tulse Hill and Wimbledon via Tooting / Sutton via Mitcham Junction.

Services that usually run between Luton and Sutton will be amended to run between Luton and Wimbledon via Crystal Palace and West Croydon.

Southern trains are replaced by buses between Tulse Hill and Sutton.

Network Rail are carrying out engineering work between Three Bridges and Haywards Heath (until 07:20) and between Preston Park and Brighton (from 07:20 until the end of service), closing some lines.

Until 07:20, Thameslink services will be replaced by buses between Three Bridges and Brighton.

From 07:20 until the end of service, Thameslink services will be replaced by buses between Haywards Heath and Brighton.

Southern services will run between Haywards Heath and Brighton via Hove.

Buses will replace trains between Brighton and Lewes.

Reduced services between London Victoria / London St Pancras International and Three Bridges on Sunday 9 April

 

Network Rail is carrying out engineering work between Battersea Park and Balham and also between Selhurst and Purley closing various lines.

These engineering works have resulted in a reduction in line capacity from and to London Victoria.

Customer Advice:

Gatwick Express trains will run a reduced service as follows:

Until 06:00, buses replace trains throughout.

From 06:00, trains will depart London Victoria on the hour and 30 minutes past and from Gatwick Airport at 20 minutes and 50 minutes past the hour.

Southern will run a reduced service between London Victoria and Brighton / Epsom via Mitcham Junction.

Trains between London Victoria and Caterham will run between Purley and Caterham. Customers should use other trains between London Victoria and Purley.

Trains between London Bridge and Tonbridge will run between Redhill and Tonbridge. Customers should use other trains between London Victoria and Redhill.

Thameslink trains service between Bedford and Three Bridges will not run.

Trains between Bedford and Brighton will call additionally at Balcombe and Preston Park.

Network Rail is carrying out late night engineering work at various locations closing various lines on the Southern network.

Customer Advice:

From approximately 21:00 each night, trains will not call at Earlswood or Salfords.

Buses will run between Redhill and Three Bridges calling at Earlswood, Salfords, Horley and Gatwick Airport.

22:47 London Victoria to Hastings is replaced by a bus between Eastbourne and Hastings.

Network Rail is carrying out engineering work between London Victoria and Balham closing all lines.

No trains will run to or from London Victoria.

Gatwick Express

No trains will run. Customers should use Southern trains between London Bridge and Gatwick Express. Overnight trains are replaced by buses between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport.

Buses will replace trains between London Bridge and Streatham Common

The following alterations will also apply on the routes to / from London Bridge:

  • West Croydon (via Streatham Common) - trains will run half hourly between Streatham Common and West Croydon.
  • Tattenham Corner (via Crystal Palace) - trains will run half hourly between Streatham Common and Tattenham Corner.
  • London Victoria - trains will run between London Victoria and Beckenham Junction.
  • Uckfield - trains will run between East Croydon and Uckfield.

Customers travelling to / from London Bridge via Sydenham are advised to use London Underground between London Bridge and Canada Water and London Overground between Canada Water and Crystal Palace / West Croydon.

Advice for South West Trains customers:

Some trains between London Waterloo and Portsmouth Harbour will start / terminate at Haslemere. Other trains will run between Haslemere and Havant. All other trains will start / terminate at Cosham or Havant to connect with the buses.

Most Great Western services will start / terminate at Fareham to connect with the buses, but additional changes will also occur on the following trains:

06.48 Portsmouth Harbour to Brighton will not run.

10.46 Great Malvern to Brighton will terminate Westbury.

09.00 Brighton to Great Malvern and 17.00 Brighton to Bristol Temple Meads will start from Westbury.

Southern

Revised service between East Croydon and Gatwick Airport on Saturday 10 June and Sunday 11 June

 

Network Rail are carrying out engineering work between East Croydon and Gatwick Airport, closing some lines.

Advice for Gatwick Express customers:

A half hourly service will run between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport.

Advice for Great Western Railway customers:

Trains between Reading and Redhill / Gatwick Airport will start / terminate at Reigate. An hourly replacement bus will run between Reigate and Gatwick Airport, to connect with this service. Buses will also run between Reigate and Redhill.

Advice for Southern customers:

A reduced service will run between London Victoria and Brighton.

A replacement bus will run between Tonbridge and Redhill and between Purley and Redhill / Horley.

Advice for Thameslink customers:

On Saturday, the 23:10 and 23:40 Bedford to Three Bridges services will depart East Croydon later than normal, arriving into Three Bridges approximately 19 minutes later than scheduled.

Trains from London Bridge to Brighton will not call at Balcombe, but trains from Bedford to Brighton will call additionally at Balcombe.

Services between Bedford and Three Bridges will run non-stop between Purley and Gatwick Airport. A replacement bus will run between Purley and Gatwick Airport via Redhill.

On Sunday, a revised service will run between London Bridge and Brighton.

Customer advice:

Trains will run between Bedford / Luton and St Pancras International (High level). Some trains will terminate / start at West Hamstead Thameslink

Customers should use London Buses or London Underground between West Hampstead Thameslink and London Bridge and Southern replacement buses between Streatham and Sutton for stations via Mitchham Junction.

Customer Advice:

London Overground

London Overground services will not run between New Cross Gate and West Croydon / Crystal Palace. Buses have been organised to run between the stations to help you complete your journey.

Southern Saturday service:

Services between London Bridge and Horsham / Uckfield will be amended to run between East Croydon and Horsham / Uckfield.

Services between London Victoria and London Bridge will be amended to run between London Victoria and Tattenham Corner via Crystal Palace, calling at all stations.

A bus service will run between London Bridge and West Croydon via Sydenham, to help you complete your journey.

Southern Sunday Service:

Service between London Bridge and Horsham will be diverted to run between London Victoria and Three Bridges.

London Bridge to Tonbridge services will run between Redhill and Tonbridge.

Services that run between London Bridge and Crystal Palace via Tulse Hill will be extended to run to and from Tattenham Corner. This is to replace services that normally run between Tattenham Corner and London Bridge via Sydenham, which are cancelled.
