Improvement works

From time to time, often at weekends or public holidays, Southern Railway have to make alterations to train services, usually for planned Improvement works.

Amended Southern service from Monday 5 to Friday 9 December

 

Engineering work is taking place between Three Bridges and Haywards Heath with some lines closed.

The 00:05 London Victoria to Worthing / Eastbourne service will terminate at Three Bridges. Customers for Worthing are advised to travel by replacement bus to Brighton to connect with a train service to Worthing. Customers for Eastbourne are advised a replacement bus will run from Three Bridges to Eastbourne.

The 01:00 and 04:00 London Victoria to Brighton services will be replaced by buses between Three Bridges and Brighton.

The 03:50 Brighton to London Victoria service will be replaced by a bus between between Brighton and Three Bridges.

Tickets will be valid on any replacement bus.

Buses replace trains between London Bridge and Streatham via Peckham Rye on Sunday 11 December

 

Engineering work is taking place between Peckham Rye and Streatham, closing the line.

Buses will replace trains between London Bridge and Streatham, extending journey times by up to 30 minutes.

Customers should be aware that Southern services will be severely disrupted from Tuesday 6 December due to RMT and ASLEF industrial action.

Amended service between Southampton Central / Eastleigh and Portsmouth Harbour on Sunday 11 December

 

Track work is taking place between St Denys and Fratton, closing the line.

Great Western Railway

Buses will replace trains between Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour, with journey times of approximately 90 minutes.

Stops at Fratton and Portsmouth & Southsea on buses from Southampton Central will be set-down only. Stops at Fratton and Portsmouth & Southsea on buses to Southampton Central will be pick-up only.

Customers travelling to and from Cosham should use Southern or South West Trains road services.

Southern

Buses will replace trains between Southampton Central and Havant. Trains will run between Portsmouth Harbour and Brighton only.

Customers should be aware that Southern services will be severely disrupted from Tuesday 6 December due to RMT and ASLEF industrial action.

South West Trains

Trains between Eastleigh / Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour will not run. Buses will replace trains between these stations.

Poole to Eastleigh services departing at 55 minutes past each hour will be extended to call additionally at stations to London Waterloo.

No trains at Hastings on Sunday 11 December

 

Engineering work is taking place between Wadhurst and Hastings and also between Bexhill and Ashford International, closing all the lines.

All day Sunday, no trains will call at Hastings.

Southeastern

Buses will replace trains between Wadhurst and Hastings.

A separate mini bus will run between Battle and Crowhurst, as buses are unable to access Crowhurst station.

Southern

Buses will replace trains between Bexhill and Ashford International.

Amended service between Purley / Reigate and Gatwick Airport on Sunday 11 December

 

Engineering work is taking place between Purley / Reigate and Earlswood, closing some lines.

Gatwick Express trains will be replaced by buses between 01:00 and 06:30. After 06:30 a half hourly Gatwick Express train service will run.

Great Western Railway trains between Reading and Gatwick Airport will run between Reading and Reigate only. Buses will run between Reigate and Gatwick Airport (taking 20 minutes), and between Reigate and Redhill (taking 10 minutes). Please depart Gatwick Airport and Redhill 15 minutes earlier than normal to ensure you meet your train connection at Reigate.

Southern trains will be diverted between Purley and Horley, and will be unable to call at Coulsdon South, Merstham, Redhill and Earlswood. Buses will run between Purley and Horley to provide connections for customers going to and from the stations without a train service.

Engineering work is taking place between Shepherds Bush and Wembley Central closing some lines.

Southern services will operate between East Croydon and Shepherds Bush.

Track work is taking place between Streatham and Sutton, closing all lines from 20:00.

Southern services will not run between Streatham and Sutton via Mitcham Junction. Buses will run between Streatham Common and Sutton.

The 22:08 Sutton to London Blackfriars Thameslink service will run non-stop between Sutton and Tulse Hill. A bus will operate for stations not served.

Engineering work is taking place between London Victoria and Balham closing most lines.

As a result of this engineering work there will be no Gatwick Express or Southern trains between London Victoria and Clapham Junction.

Southeastern trains are not affected by this engineering work.

The Gatwick Express service will not run. Customers should use trains Southern trains between London Bridge and Gatwick Airport.

Southern trains are replaced by buses between London Victoria and Streatham Hill / East Croydon.

Some services diverted to start / terminate at London Bridge.

The following services are diverted to start / terminate at London Bridge:

  • Brighton - trains will run half hourly.
  • Eastbourne / Littlehampton - trains will run hourly.
  • Tonbridge - trains will run between Redhill and Tonbridge. Customers should use alternative trains between London Bridge and Redhill.
  • Bognor Regis - trains are diverted to terminate / start at Littlehampton.
  • Caterham - trains will run between Purley and Caterham. Customers should use alternative trains to / from Purley.
  • Tattenham Corner - trains will run via Peckham Rye and Selhurst.

Network Rail are carrying out engineering work between Pevensey and Westham / Bexhill, closing all lines.

The 22:47 London Victoria to Hastings will terminate at Eastbourne, you will be able to continue your journey on the replacement bus service provided.

Amended service between Bristol Parkway and Swindon on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 February

 

Network Rail are carrying out engineering work between Bristol Parkway and Gloucester / Cheltenham Spa, closing some lines.

Customer Advice:

Cross Country trains will divert via an alternative route calling additionally at Gloucester, with journey times extended by one hour.

On Sunday until 16:00, trains will not call at Bristol Parkway, but will call additionally at Patchway. Buses will replace trains between Patchway and Bristol Parkway.

Great Western Railway trains between London Paddington and South Wales will be diverted between Swindon and Bristol Parkway via Bath Sp, extending journey times by 35 minutes.

Until 19:45 London Paddington to Swansea services will depart London Paddington 33 minutes earlier than usual.

Trains between Great Malvern / Worcester Foregate Street / Worcester Shrub Hill/ Gloucester / Cheltenham Spaand Bristol Temple Meads / Westbury / Frome / Weymouth / Southampton Central / Brighton will not operate between Gloucester and Bristol Temple Meads. Network Rail are carrying out engineering work between London Victoria and Clapham Junction.

As a result of this engineering work there will be no Gatwick Express or Southern trains between London Victoria and Clapham Junction.

Southeastern trains are not affected by this engineering work.

The Gatwick Express service will not run. Customers should use trains Southern trains between London Bridge and Gatwick Airport.

Southern trains are replaced by buses between London Victoria and Clapham Junction / East Croydon via Selhurst.

Some services diverted from London Victoria to start / terminate at London Bridge.

The following alterations to trains to / from London Bridge will apply:

  • Brighton - trains will run half hourly.
  • Eastbourne / Littlehampton - trains will teminate / strart from Bexhill.

The 21:52 and 22:22 Monday to Wednesday Bedford to Brighton service will terminate at Three Bridges. The 00:10 Tuesday to Thursday Brighton to Bedford service will start at Three Bridges.

A replacement bus will run between Three Bridges and Brighton.

No trains between Streatham and Sutton via Mitcham Junction on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 February

 

Network Rail are carrying out engineering work between Streatham and Wimbledon, closing some lines.

Customer Advice:

Southern trains are replaced by buses between Streatham and Epsom / Epsom Downs. An hourly shuttle service will operate between Epsom and Horsham.

Thameslink will run 2 trains per hour will operate to / from Wimbledon via Tooting.

Customers should use local TfL buses between Streatham and Sutton.
