Planned industrial action affecting Southern services from Tuesday 10 May until Friday 13 May

The RMT union has planned industrial action across the Southern network on:

  • Tuesday 10 May and Wednesday 11 May
  • Thursday 12 May and Friday 13 May

If the industrial action takes place, it will have a significant effect on Southern services on the affected days, with no service on many routes and only a limited service between approximately 07.30 and 18.00 on others.

Queuing systems will be in place at many stations that are open so you may have a long wait before you are able to board a train. Unfortunately, Southern cannot guarantee to get you to your destination.

A summary of the services that Southern plan to run on the affected days is available below, and the latest information is also available on the Southern website.

On the affected days, no service is expected to run on the following routes:

  • Clapham Junction to Milton Keynes via Kensington Olympia
  • Dorking to Horsham
  • Oxted to Uckfield
  • Haywards Heath to Lewes
  • Preston Park to Hove
  • Lewes to Seaford
  • Eastbourne to Ashford International via Hastings (Southeastern services will operate between St Leonards Warrior Square and Hastings as normal)
  • Chichester to Havant/ Portsmouth Harbour and Southampton Central (South West Trains and Great Western Railway services will operate between Havant and Portsmouth Harbour/Southampton Central as normal)
  • Redhill to Tonbridge
  • Redhill to Reigate (Great Western Railway services will operate on this route as normal)
  • Earlswood, Salfords and Faygate stations will not be served

A limited service is expected to run on the following routes, the timetables operated on the previous strike are provided as a guide:

Times for London Victoria to Three Bridges service are included in the London to Brighton timetable below.

A revised service is expected to run on the following route:

Southern Metro services will operate a normal service as will Thameslink, but trains on many routes are expected to be extremely busy. Gatwick Express services will be largely unaffected but all services are expected to be extremely busy with some trains unable to call at certain stations. You are advised to allow more time for your journey and to avoid peak times.

If you decide not to travel on a strike day, please return your ticket to the original retailer for a full refund. No admin fee will be charged.

Major engineering work taking place over the Early May Bank Holiday weekend

The Early May Bank Holiday will be one of the least disruptive bank holidays for rail travel for many years, with over 96 per cent of the railway network unaffected by Network Rail's planned improvement work.

It is estimated around £33m will be invested by Network Rail over this weekend, although compared with the recent Easter programme, there will be significantly less disruption on major routes, with the overwhelming majority of journeys unaffected.

The major improvement work taking place this weekend will affect the following locations:

Details of how all this weekend's engineering works may affect your journey can be found on the Future Engineering Work pages.
