Sustaining rural rail lines
The Sussex Community Rail Partnership (SCRP) is a not-for-profit partnership that works to promote rail travel along some of the branch lines on our network.
They do this by:
- Working with transport operators and local communities
- Facilitating projects that give the community a sense of ownership and pride in their stations
- Encouraging rural tourism and therefore helping to support local economies
- Working with schools and local councils to educate children about rail travel and safety
- Working with community groups to help remove barriers to travel
- Encouraging car-free and sustainable travel
- Holding a variety of different events, from cycle rides to 150th celebrations
- Producing award-winning guides to the train lines and local attractions
Where they cover
The SCRP serves the following areas:
- Arun Valley (Gatwick Airport to Bognor Regis, Chichester and Littlehampton)
- Brighton to Seaford
- Marshlink (Ashford to Hastings)
- Tonbridge to Reigate
- Oxted to East Grinstead and Uckfield

A full community effort
The partnership brings together a wide range of community stakeholders –Southern, local councils, passenger groups, community groups, plus education, business and leisure representatives. Together, we undertake projects designed to benefit all aspects of the community, such as:
- Line guides, promoting different areas of interest
- A programme of guided walks and other events
- Station art and other projects
We also work together with SCRP on our extensive programme of station partnerships
We also support SCRP with their work with Great Western Railways on the North Down line (Reigate to Guildford).
