Black Country Living Museum is a unique day out with something for everyone to explore, experience and enjoy.

Discover sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the Black Country, from the Industrial Revolution to post-war prosperity. In an area that was once “black by day and red by night”, the Black Country sits at the heart of the West Midlands and became known as the fiery centre of British industry.  The Museum hosts a village of shops and houses, a high street and industrial factories for you to step inside and discover the history of a small region that made a big impact on the people, culture and industry of the world.

Historic characters bring the buildings to life. They may be working or simply sat enjoying a cup of tea. Step inside and say ‘ow am ya’ and chat with the people that made this place home, from metalworkers and miners to nurses and schoolteachers – and even a pub landlord or two.

There are so many experiences for visitors to enjoy which will take you back in time. Go underground in the drift mine to find out what life was like for an 1850s miner, or watch a short film from the silent era in the 1920s cinema. See classic cars, vans and motorcycles and even ride on a vintage bus. Or perhaps take part in an Edwardian school lesson – but be careful not to get the cane!

The latest addition, a 1940s-60s high street, is open for business and ready for you to experience the popular culture of the time. Meet new historic characters, see how they dressed, check out the latest hairdos and find out what was on their shopping lists. Pop inside to taste nostalgic sweets, listen to trend setting vinyl records, and shop in our 1950s butchers.

For those of you who are thrill seekers, head on over to the fairground to experience traditional rides, reach for the stars on the super-sonic jets and have a go at old-time stall games.

As you delve into the past, why not buy some of the famously bostin’ fish and chips, pick up a paper bag of traditional sweets and not forgetting, get a round in… enjoy a Babycham or Cherry B in a stylish 1950s pub.

Can’t see it all in one day? When you pay for just one day, you get a ticket to return as many times as you would like for a whole year, at no extra charge!
