Apology and amended service information for our customers on the Uckfield line

An apology and explanation for our customers on the Uckfield line

Firstly, we want to acknowledge that our service on the Uckfield line has not been good enough in recent weeks and that too often services have been delayed or cancelled.

GTR (Southern) and Network Rail would like to apologise to you, our customers, who travel on the Uckfield line and have had difficult journeys recently.  We understand the impact that disruption has on people and their work, education, appointments, and families.

We know that our customers need a service they can depend on and confidence that the railway is tackling the underlying causes of the recent poor service, so we wanted to set out some of the things we are doing to provide a better service in future for you.

Temporary changes to our timetable

So that we can provide a more reliable service for our customers, we have introduced a temporary timetable from 1 September. This timetable is expected to be in place until 2 November.

At certain times during the day, trains will terminate at, and start from, Crowborough. Replacement buses will run between Crowborough and Uckfield to provide connections.

Please check before you travel for the latest journey information, including train times, replacement bus services and alternative travel options. You should also allow a little extra time for your journey where needed. Journey planners online are up to date for future travel information.

Staff will also be on-site to assist you with any additional further queries you may have for your onward travel.

Car park season ticket holders at Uckfield and Buxted are also eligible to park at Crowborough and Eridge with no additional cost.

You can also use your ticket at no additional cost on the following services:

  • Southeastern services between Tunbridge Wells and London
  • Alternative Southern and Thameslink services between Haywards Heath / Three Bridges and London

Please note, whilst the timetable will be returning to normal on 2 November, engineering works will be taking place on 8 November which will close the line, with buses running between Uckfield and Oxted. Full details of these works can be found on our planned engineering works page.

The usual timetable will operate on Sunday, with no planned changes to services.

We know these service alterations will mean changes to journeys, and we appreciate your patience and understanding while these temporary arrangements are in place.

We recognise that passengers on the Uckfield line need a reliable service and that recent performance has not been good enough, so we are working hard to provide better journeys in future.  If any journey you have made with us recently has been delayed by 15 minutes or more, please remember that you may be eligible for compensation through Delay Repay.
