Planned Changes to Train Times

Details of planned engineering works on the Southern network.

Planned engineering work

  • To maintain and improve the railway, Network Rail carries out regular planned engineering works on the Southern network
  • Work normally takes place at weekends or after 10 pm – but occasionally services are impacted at other times
  • Information will be available here as soon as it is available
  • Please check before travelling, and see our live departures and arrivals for up-to-the-minute information

Planning a journey or buying a ticket in advance?

To help plan your journey in advance, we have worked with our industry partners to upload the dates and locations of planned engineering works into the engineering works calendar below.

Normally, the timetable for any particular day is confirmed 12 weeks in advance. Due to the volume of jointly agreed engineering work taking place to improve the network, Network Rail and Southern will be confirming timetables closer to the date of travel. Wherever possible we've highlighted those affected journeys in our journey planner using a warning alert.

You can still book tickets in advance and our Advance fares are available up until the day before travel. If you buy a ticket in advance and the journey is changed then you can either check how the service has been changed and continue to travel or apply for a refund.

Planned engineering work for 29th August 2020

Routes affected:
Southern between London Victoria / London Bridge and Oxted / East Grinstead / Uckfield

Engineering work is taking place between South Croydon and East Grinstead, closing all lines.

Buses will replace trains between:

  • Purley and East Grinstead (calling at Upper Warlingham and Oxted).
  • Upper Warlingham and Woldingham.
  • Oxted and East Grinstead (all stations).
  • Oxted and Crowborough (all stations).
  • Crowborough and Uckfield (all stations).

Customers should change at Purley or East Croydon for trains to / from London.

Tickets will also be accepted on Southeastern services between Tunbridge Wells and London Bridge.

Customers for Sanderstead / Riddlesdown should note that no replacement buses will call at these stations:

Sanderstead:

Customers can use London Bus route 403 between Beechwood Rd / Mayfield Rd bus stop and South Croydon / West Croydon station.

Customers can use Purley Oaks as an alternative station, which is 0.3 miles away.  Please note Purley Oaks does not have step free access. Please contact the Southern assisted travel team on 0800 138 1016 should you need step free access. 

Riddlesdown:

Customers for Riddlesdown can use London Bus route 412 between Mitchley Avenue and Purley / South Croydon / East Croydon stations.  In addition, London Bus route 403 can be used between Sanderstead All Saints' Church bus stop for South Croydon / West Croydon stations.

Purley station is also approximately 20 minutes walk from Riddlesdown station.

Routes affected:
Southern to / from Watford Junction / Milton Keynes Central

Engineering work is taking place in the Harlesden area, closing lines at various times on Saturday and Sunday.

From 20:10 on Saturday until 12:00 on Sunday, and from 21:00 on Sunday until the end of service, no Southern trains will run between Shepherds Bush and Watford Junction / Milton Keynes Central.

Customers can use Southern services between Clapham Junction and London Victoria, London Underground between Victoria and Euston, and London Northwestern Railway services between London Euston and Watford Junction / Milton Keynes Central.

Southern to / from Beckenham Junction

Engineering work is taking place in the Beckenham Junction area, closing some lines.

As a result, Southern services that usually run between London Bridge and Beckenham Junction will be amended to run between London Bridge and Crystal Palace only.

Customers to / from Beckenham Junction can use Tramlink services to travel between East Croydon and Beckenham Junction.
