Gatwick Staff Discount Card

If you work at Gatwick Airport, then you may be eligible for discounted train tickets from your home station to Gatwick Airport.

What is the Gatwick Staff Discount Card?

The Gatwick Staff Discount Card:

offers 25% saving on rail travel in the card area
is for use between your home station and Gatwick Airport

What train tickets can you buy

Season tickets, including Weekly, Monthly, and any other period up to an Annual ticket
First and Standard Class Anytime, Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak Single, Day Return or Return tickets.

How to buy train tickets with the discount

Tickets can be purchased online at ticket.southernrailway.com/promotion/Gatwick-Airport-Staff-Discount-Scheme
or at any Gatwick Express, Great Northern, Southern or Thameslink ticket office.

To buy tickets online you must visit the Gatwick Airport ID Centre to get your unique PIN number.

If you do not have a Gatwick airport photo identification card, you must buy a Gatwick Staff Discount Card from the train station first (see below).

How to qualify for your discount

Your employment must be based at Gatwick Airport, and you must have either:

Gatwick photo identification card (with unique identification number) issued by the Gatwick ID centre

OR you will need to purchase a Gatwick Staff Discount Card. To purchase the card you must have a:

Rail photocard (you will need to supply a passport size and quality photo)
and proof of employment status, in the form of or a letter from your employer on headed paper verifying you are based at Gatwick Airport, your work address and your status as a staff member

Your Gatwick Staff Discount Card will have your staff identification or rail photocard number on it. If you do not have valid photo identification and proof of employment status, you will not be able to collect your discount card.

How to get your Discount Card

Take your application form, photo identification and proof of employment status to the ticket office in train station in the South Terminal to collect your discount card.

Once you have your Gatwick Staff Discount Card you can purchase your discounted train tickets from any station within the card area upon presentation of the card and your photo identification.

Replacing lost cards

If you lose your Gatwick Staff Discount Card you can apply for a duplicate by completing the form below. A £20 administration fee will be charged for issuing the duplicate.

There will be no refunds given on the Gatwick Staff Discount Card.

Gatwick Staff Discount Card terms and conditions

The Gatwick Staff Discount is available across the Gatwick Staff Discount area map.
Gatwick Airport station must be the origin or destination of the journey.
Gatwick Airport ID holders must carry their Gatwick Airport ID as proof of eligibility for the Gatwick Staff Discount scheme. They must show their Airport ID when requested by a member of rail staff. Failure to do so could result in being charged the full single fare for the journey or being issued a Penalty Fare or MG11.
Gatwick Airport employees who do not have a Gatwick Airport ID must purchase a Gatwick Staff Discount Card from colleagues at Gatwick Airport Train Station. The Discount Card must be carried as proof of eligibility for the Gatwick Staff Discount scheme. They must show their Discount Card when requested by a member of rail staff. Failure to do so could result in being charged the full single fare for the journey or being issued a Penalty Fare or MG11.
Tickets can be bought from any Gatwick Express, Great Northern, Southern or Thameslink ticket office or online at https://ticket.southernrailway.com/promotion/Gatwick-Airport-Staff-Discount-Scheme
If the ticket is purchased at a ticket office, Gatwick Airport ID or the Gatwick Discount Card must be shown for eligibility.
The following ticket types, where the journey is between a station within the travel area and Gatwick Airport, qualify for the 25% discount:
- Season tickets: Weekly, Monthly, and any other period up to an Annual ticket
- Anytime, Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak, Single, Day Return or Return tickets
- First and Standard Class tickets
Annual Season tickets do not qualify for a Gold Card
Where the passenger has bought a Gatwick Staff Discount card, no tickets can be issued with an expiry date which is after the expiry date of their Gatwick Staff Discount card.
Discounted tickets to / from Gatwick Airport will be accepted on all Gatwick Express, Great Northern, Southern and Thameslink services.
Discounted tickets to / from Gatwick Airport will also be accepted on other operators’ services as follows:
- East Midlands Railway (EMR) – between Bedford and London St Pancras International
- Greater Anglia – between Ely and London Liverpool Street via Cambridge
- Great Western Railway (GWR) – between Wokingham and Gatwick Airport via Guildford, plus between Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour
- London Overground – between Clapham Junction and Queens Road Peckham, Clapham Junction and Watford Junction via Willesden Junction, plus between West Croydon / Crystal Palace and New Cross Gate
- Southeastern – between Loughborough Junction and London Blackfriars, plus between Denmark Hill and Orpington / Swanley via Catford and London Bridge and Rainham via Greenwich
- South Western Railway (SWR) – between Southampton Central / Portsmouth Harbour and Havant, plus between Witley and Woking / Epsom via Guildford
The discount is not valid for any other journey with these operators and is not valid for any journey using CrossCountry, Hull Trains, LNER or Lumo services.
Discounts do not apply to: Flexi Season tickets, London Underground, Travelcard, London Trams, Add-On Bus Link, PlusBus or Leisure / Admission fares
The Gatwick Staff Discount cannot be used in conjunction with any other discount.
The Gatwick Staff Discount is not valid for discounted Car Parking at any station.
No refunds are available on the Gatwick Staff Discount Card.
Tickets issued in association with the Gatwick Staff Discount, are non-transferrable. Users cannot buy tickets for anyone else but themselves.
Gatwick Staff Discount user data will be stored by Southern and may be used for research or marketing purposes by Southern but will not be passed to third parties. Important information and updates about the Gatwick Staff Discount will be sent to users.
Tickets are sold subject to the National Rail Conditions of Travel
Fraudulent use of the Gatwick Staff Discount scheme may result in the Gatwick Staff Discount Card, and/or access to the Discount website being taken away, and prosecution.
