Train Service Updates

See if there is any service disruption on the Southern network, check live departures and arrivals from any station or find out about any alternative routes during unplanned disruption.

A fault with the signalling system between Redhill and Tonbridge means trains have to run at reduced speed on the line towards Tonbridge. As a result, trains may be delayed by up to 15 minutes.
Disruption is expected until 10:00.
Customer advice:
Southern services from Redhill towards Tonbridge will be delayed by around 10-15 minutes in the Nutfield area.
You can still use your normal route, but please leave some extra time for your journey, especially if you need to make a connection between trains on different routes at Tonbridge.

Can you tell me more about the incident?
Rodents have chewed through a signalling cable in the Nutfield area. The signalling system is "failsafe", so the damage to the cable means that one of the signals in the area is only able to show a red light to drivers. Trains will stop on the approach to the signal, and drivers will get verbal instructions to continue east, which takes longer than normal.
Network Rail technicians are investigating and will repair this as soon as possible.

For the week before and after Easter - between Monday 30 March and Friday 10 April - there will be small changes to Southern services between Littlehampton / Bognor Regis / Eastbourne and London Bridge and between East Grinstead and London Victoria.

On Monday to Thursday, the additional peak-time trains between Littlehampton / Bognor Regis / Eastbourne and London Bridge will not run.

This applies to the:
● 06:05 Littlehampton to London Bridge via Worthing
● 06:47 Eastbourne to London Bridge
● 07:02 Bognor Regis to London Bridge via Horsham
● 17:03 London Bridge to Eastbourne
● 17:33 London Bridge to Littlehampton via Worthing
● 18:03 London Bridge to Bognor Regis via Horsham

If you normally travel on these trains you will be able to use other services to complete your journey - with connections to alternative trains available at stations such as Preston Park, Haywards Heath, Three Bridges and East Croydon.

For Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be eight (four in each direction) additional off-peak trains between East Grinstead and London Victoria to provide a half-hourly service during the middle of the day. A half-hourly service already runs all day on Thursdays and Fridays.

Both of these changes are being made to better support demand during these two weeks over the Easter break as demand for peak time trains decreases and more people travel in the off-peak period instead. Please remember that there will also be engineering work taking place over this period, as well as amended timetables for bank holidays.

Engineering work is taking place overnight between Three Bridges and Brighton ending Thursday morning, closing some lines.

Southern:

Between 23:59 on Monday to Wednesday evenings until 05:00 on Tuesday to Thursday mornings, buses will replace trains between Three Bridges and Eastbourne / Worthing.

Additionally:

The 00:02 (Tuesday to Thursday mornings) London Victoria to Worthing train will terminate at Three Bridges. A replacement bus will run from Three Bridges to Brighton. An additional train will run from Brighton to Worthing at the in place of the train that terminates at Three Bridges
The 01:08 (Tuesday to Thursday mornings) Haywards Heath to Eastbourne train will not run. Replacement buses will run from Haywards Heath to Lewes and from Lewes to Eastbourne

Thameslink:

These buses will be operated by South Western Railway, however Southern tickets will be accepted at no extra cost.

Trains will run between Brighton and Southampton Central, and between London Victoria and Havant.

Background information:

Network Rail will be strengthening critical pieces of infrastructure in the Portsmouth area.

At Portcreek Viaduct between Portsmouth and Cosham, which was constructed in 1897, Network Rail are reinforcing beams and restoring the structural integrity of the bridges. There will also be track replacement work at Portsmouth & Southsea station, the renewal of 62 wheel timbers across St George’s Road Bridge and Landport Viaduct, and track maintenance at St George’s Road Bridge to provide smoother train journeys and reduced wheel sound.
