Details of planned engineering works on the Southern network.

Planned engineering work

  • To maintain and improve the railway, Network Rail carries out regular planned engineering works on the Southern network
  • Work normally takes place at weekends or after 10 pm – but occasionally services are impacted at other times
  • Information will be available here as soon as it is available
  • Please check before travelling, and see our live departures and arrivals for up-to-the-minute information

Southern between Brighton and Seaford / Eastbourne

Engineering work is taking place between Brighton and Seaford / Eastbourne, closing all lines on Sunday morning.

Before 09:15, buses will replace trains between Brighton and Seaford / Eastbourne.

Routes affected:
Southeastern between London Charing Cross and Ramsgate / Hastings, and also between Tonbridge and Strood Southern between Redhill and Tonbridge

Engineering work is taking place between Tonbridge area, closing some lines.

Southeastern:

Saturday:

  • London Charing Cross and Waterloo East will close at midnight, with late night services diverted to run from London Cannon Street.
  • Paddock Wood Line: Trains between London Charing Cross and Ramsgate via Dover will be re-timed, and will run via Maidstone East. Additional trains will run between Paddock Wood and Ashford.
  • Hastings Line: Trains between London Charing Cross and Hastings will only run between London Charing Cross and Tonbridge. Additional trains will run between Tunbridge Wells and Hastings.
  • Medway Valley Line: Trains between Tonbridge and Strood will only run between Paddock Wood and Strood.

 

Buses will replace trains between:

  • Tonbridge and Paddock Wood
  • Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells

 

Sunday:

  • London Charing Cross and Waterloo East are closed all day. Services will operate to and from London Cannon Street instead. Passengers can use their tickets on the London Underground via reasonable routes.
  • Paddock Wood Line: Trains between London Cannon Street and Ramsgate via Dover will be re-timed, and will run via Maidstone East.
  • Hastings Line: Trains between London Cannon Street and Hastings will only run between London Cannon Street and Tonbridge. Additional trains will run between Tunbridge Wells and Hastings.
  • Medway Valley Line: Trains between Tonbridge and Strood will only run between Maidstone West and Strood.

 

Buses will replace trains between:

  • Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells
  • Tonbridge and Maidstone West
  • Tonbridge and Headcorn
  • Headcorn and Ashford International

 

Southern:

Buses replace trains between Edenbridge and Tonbridge.

Gatwick Express between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport Southern between London Victoria and Brighton / Lewes / Horsham / East Grinstead / Eastbourne / Ore / Worthing / Bognor Regis / Littlehampton Portsmouth & Southsea / Portsmouth Harbour / Southampton Central

Engineering work is taking place between London Victoria and East Croydon, closing all lines to / from London Victoria.

Gatwick Express:

No Gatwick Express services will run on Saturday or Sunday.

You can use alternative Southern / Thameslink trains between London Bridge and Gatwick Airport.

Southern:

No trains will run to / from London Victoria on Saturday or Sunday.

On Saturday, trains will not run between London Victoria and Balham. On Sunday, trains will not run between London Victoria and Streatham Hill / East Croydon.

Replacement buses will run between Clapham Junction and Balham on Saturday and between Clapham Junction and East Croydon on Sunday. Some late night / early morning buses will be extended to run to / from London Victoria.

Most trains will be amended to run to / from London Bridge instead of London Victoria, and will run to an amended timetable.

No direct trains will run between Reigate and London, please change at Redhill when travelling to / from London.

No trains will call at stations between London Bridge and East Croydon via Sydenham.

No trains will run between East Croydon / Clapham Junction and Watford Junction / Milton Keynes Central. For these services, you can use London Underground between Clapham Junction and London Euston, and London Northwestern Railway services between London Euston and Watford Junction / Milton Keynes Central.

Ticket acceptance:

You can use your ticket on:

  • London Underground services between London Victoria and Clapham Junction / Balham / London Bridge, and also between London Bridge and Canada Water.
  • London Bus routes 170 / 255 / 319  between Balham and Streatham Hill.
  • London Overground between Canada Water and Crystal Palace / West Croydon.
  • South Western Railway services between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction.

Engineering work is taking place between Portsmouth & Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour, closing some lines.

Great Western:

Saturday:

Services between Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour will start / terminate at Portsmouth & Southsea. Customers should use South Western Railway replacement services between Portsmouth & Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour.


Sunday:

Services between Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour will start / terminate at Fareham. Buses will replace trains between Fareham and Portsmouth Harbour, calling at all stations.

 

South Western Railway:

Saturday:

  • A revised service will run between London Waterloo, Haslemere and Portsmouth & Southsea.
  • London Waterloo - Portsmouth Harbour via Eastleigh services will terminate at Fratton.
  • Southampton Central - Portsmouth Harbour stopping services will terminate at Fratton.

 

Buses will replace trains between:

  • Fratton and Portsmouth Harbour
  • Portsmouth & Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour

 

Sunday:

  • London Waterloo - Portsmouth via Guildford services will terminate at Havant.
  • London Waterloo - Portsmouth via Eastleigh services will be revised and will terminate at Fareham.
  • Southampton Central - Portsmouth stopping services will depart earlier and will terminate at Fareham.

 

Buses will replace trains between:

  • Fareham and Portsmouth Harbour
  • Havant and Portsmouth Harbour

 

Southern:

Saturday:

Buses replace trains between Fratton and Portsmouth Harbour.

Sunday:

Buses replace trains between Havant and Portsmouth Harbour.
