Cycling events on our network

Here’s how you can get to and from your next cycling event by Southern train.

Can you take your bike on board?

Bikes are usually allowed on our trains at off-peak times on weekdays and at weekends.

However, when large cycling events are taking place with hundreds or thousands of participants, restrictions may be put in place. This is to avoid the walkways and vestibules on trains becoming blocked by the number of bikes. A queuing system for bikes may be put in place or there may even be a complete ban on bikes for a period of time.

If your event is on a weekday, you’ll need to follow our regular cycle policy.

Skyline London to Brighton Cycle Ride

Sunday 11 September

For the safety and comfort of customers, we will be restricting the number of bikes that can be taken on to trains departing from Brighton station all day. Staff will monitor the numbers and a queuing system may be in operation.

If you’re travelling with a bike and leaving from Brighton please be prepared to queue.

The ride organisers make alternative arrangements for bike ride participants on the day to travel back from Brighton to London. To find out more visit londonbrightoncycle.co.uk

Please note that engineering works are taking place on the line from Brighton to Lewes. Replacement buses will be in operation. For safety reasons, we can’t take non-folding cycles on rail replacement buses.
