Things to do in Bexhill
Bexhill found fame as an exclusive seaside resort for well-to-do Londoners and evidence of this can be found throughout the town with its sweeping promenade and ornate Victorian redbrick terraces that line the seafront, as well as sprawling parks and European style plazas.
Holidaymakers can stroll along the grand promenade and admire the sea views on one side and the luxurious Victorian mansion blocks on the other. On the seafront, the De La Warr Pavilion, named after the 9th Earl, is a majestic art deco building. Visitors can admire the contemporary art exhibitions, attend comedy gigs and concerts, and because it’s a short stroll from the railway station, taking the train takes the stress out getting to Bexhill for an evening event.
The Bexhill Museum houses unique collections documenting the history of Bexhill, as well as its motoring heritage. Backing onto the museum is the fabulous Egerton Park. The perfect spot for a picnic, Egerton Park has a popular children’s play-zone, fitness area and tennis courts and it still retains an air of the Edwardian park it once was.
A trip to a great British seaside town wouldn’t be complete without a paddle in the sea. The beaches along the south coast are mainly shingle, but at low tide there’s a good expanse of sand to play on at Bexhill - perfect for building sandcastles. Or, you can simply hire a beach hut for the day and sit eating fish and chips, washed down with a 99 ice cream!
