Kids for £1

Children can travel for only £1 with Southern.

Up to four children aged 5 to 15 years may travel Off-Peak for only £1 each when accompanied by an Adult with a valid ticket.

This is available on journeys across the Southern network providing your journey begins or ends outside London Zones 1-9. Journeys wholly within London Zones 1-9 are not valid.

Great news: Southern has made most Kids for £1 tickets available through our website* so that you can buy your Adult and Child tickets together online. No need to queue at the ticket office!

If you’re buying your Adult and Child tickets at the same time, you can buy both tickets through our website, at a Ticket Vending Machine, or at the ticket office. If you have already purchased your Adult ticket you will only be able to buy the Child £1 ticket from the ticket office.

An example of use would be:
If you live in Brighton and want to take your four children to London at the weekend, you will need to buy one of the ticket types shown below and you can then take the Kids for just £1 each.

Children travelling on their own (unaccompanied) must pay the normal Child fare, which is 50% of the Adult fare.

Which Adult tickets can I combine with Kids for £1?

Southern Kids for £1 tickets are available in combination with the following Adult tickets for Standard and First Class:

Season tickets
Kids for £1 may be combined with a valid Adult Season ticket for travel Off-Peak. This Child fare will be valid for one day only.
Off-Peak Day and Off-Peak tickets (Single and Return)
Kids for £1 can be combined with Adult Off-Peak tickets and Off-Peak Day tickets including Single and Return tickets.
Super Off-Peak Day tickets (Single and Return)
Kids for £1 can be combined with Adult Super Off-Peak tickets. It can also be combined with Super Off-Peak Travelcards (including the new Super Off-Peak Weekend Travelcards).
Southern Advance tickets
Kids for £1 can be combined with Adult Southern Advance tickets.
Off-Peak Day Travelcards
If you are travelling from outside of London Zones 1-9 you can also combine Kids for £1 with an Off-Peak Day Travelcard.

First Capital Connect for £2

Please Note: Southern Kids for £1 tickets are valid on the First Capital Connect trains that run on the Southern network. First Capital Connect offer tickets for accompanied Child tickets for £2 on some journeys, and these are valid on Southern trains.

If the Adult ticket is restricted to one specific Train Operator or via a particular station, both Adult and Child are subject to this restriction.

Oyster for Kids

Children aged from 5 to 15 years old can travel between stations wholly within London Zones 1-6 Off-Peak for a maximum of £1.40 (through Daily Price Capping) providing they have a 5-10 or 11-15 Oyster Card. Travel during Peak times will cost more.
