Service alterations

Amended weekday Southern and Gatwick Express services until further notice

In order to give you more certainty for your journey and enable you to better plan, Southern and Gatwick Express have implemented an amended timetable on Mondays to Fridays.

Until train crew availability returns to normal, a revised timetable will be running on the following routes:

  • Gatwick Express - some trains will not run
  • Brighton - Southampton Central - most trains will not run. Journeys can be made between these stations, but a change of trains will be required
  • Hastings - Ashford International - some peak time services will be replaced by buses
  • East Croydon / Clapham Junction - Milton Keynes Central - a reduced service will run

If your journey is delayed by more than 30 minutes during the amended timetable, you will be able to claim compensation against trains cancelled in advance or against delays experienced on the day.

Industrial action affecting Southern services

The members of the RMT union are planning to take strike action on various dates in the upcoming months. These include:

  • Tuesday 11 October to Thursday 13 October
  • Tuesday 18 October to Thursday 20 October
  • Thursday 3 November to Saturday 5 November
  • Tuesday 22 November and Wednesday 23 November
  • Tuesday 6 December to Thursday 8 December

Current delays, cancellations and train formation updates

Cancellations to services at Portsmouth Harbour

Due to a wartime bomb near the railway at Portsmouth Harbour all lines are blocked.
Impact:
Train services running to and from this station may be cancelled. Disruption is expected until 01:00 30/09.
Customer Advice:
Southern services to and from Portsmouth Harbour will start and terminate at Fratton or Portsmouth and Southsea until the close of service. This is owing to a wartime bomb being located in the Portsmouth Harbour area. At present the emergency services are making sure this wartime bomb is safe and will be moved from the area. At present we have NO estimate time of services to Portsmouth Harbour resuming.

Customers are advise to use alternative transport from Portsmouth and Southsea or Fratton until further notice.

Will be formed of 6 coaches instead of 4.

This train will call additionally at East Croydon and Clapham Junction.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.

This train will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.

This train will now be formed of the usual number of coaches.
This is due to engineering work.

This is due to a shortage of train drivers.

Replacement buses, operated by Ensign, will depart London Victoria at 02:00 calling at booked stations to Three Bridges.

Upcoming works

Amended 23:47 London Victoria to Oxted service from Monday 26 to Friday 30 September

Engineering work is taking place between East Croydon and Oxted from 00:25 until 04:50 each day, closing some lines. Read more about engineering work and why it is necessary.

The 23:47 London Victoria to Oxted service will be replaced by a bus between East Croydon and Oxted.

Amended 23:08 London Bridge to Horsham service from Monday 26 to Friday 30 September

Engineering work is taking place between Earlswood and Three Bridges, with some lines closed. Read more about engineering work and why it is necessary.

The 23:08 (Monday - Thursday) London Bridge to Horsham service will not call at Earlswood and Salfords. A bus replacement will connect with this service at Redhill and provide the last connections for passengers to / from Earlswood and Salfords.
