Train Service Updates

See if there is any service disruption on the Southern network, check live departures and arrivals from any station or find out about any alternative routes during unplanned disruption.

All lines have now reopened following an earlier fault with the electric third rail at Brighton. Trains may continue to be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.
Disruption is expected until 12:00.
Customer advice:
If you are travelling to or from Brighton via Gatwick Airport you can travel on your normal route.
If you are travelling between Brighton and Seaford the first train expected to run on this route departed Brighton at 11:06 This train will be departing Lewes at 11:30 and will stop at Bishopstone and Seaford as planned.
Operators are working to return to the scheduled timetable, but please continue to check journey planners and station information boards before you travel.

Can you tell me more about the incident?
A fault with the electric third rail had blocked one of the southbound lines approaching Brighton, and has also caused damage to trains which have since come to a stop at Seaford and Haywards Heath.
As a result, at Brighton, trains were having to cross over junctions more often than usual, and use different lines to avoid the issue. Because this congestion, operators had to reduce services in the area.
All lines are now open and operators are working to get trains back to the normal timetable.

Engineering work is taking place between East Croydon and Oxted, closing some lines.

From approximately 22:30 until the end of service on Monday to Thursday evenings:

The 22:07 London Bridge to Uckfield train will terminate at Oxted. Replacement buses will run from Oxted to Crowborough / Uckfield
The 23:07 London Bridge to Uckfield train will terminate at East Croydon. Replacement buses will run from East Croydon to Oxted and from Oxted to Crowborough / Uckfield
The 22:33 Uckfield to London Bridge train will not call at Cowden or Hever and will terminate at East Croydon
The 22:50 and 23:22 London Victoria to East Grinstead trains will terminate at East Croydon. Replacement buses will run from East Croydon to East Grinstead
The 23:53 London Victoria to Oxted train will terminate at East Croydon. A replacement bus will run from East Croydon to Oxted
The 23:06 East Grinstead to London Victoria train will not run. A replacement bus will run from East Grinstead to East Croydon

Buses replace late night / early morning trains between Eastbourne and Hastings / Ore from Monday 11 to Friday 15 May

Between London Victoria and Hastings / Ore, between Brighton and Hastings / Ore, and between Eastbourne and Ashford International

Engineering work is taking place overnight between Eastbourne and Hastings ending Friday morning, closing some lines.

From approximately 21:30 until the end of service on Monday to Thursday evenings, buses will replace trains between Eastbourne and Hastings / Ore.

Trains to / from Ashford International will only run between Hastings and Ashford International.

Customers need to use an earlier bus from Eastbourne in order to connect with trains from Hastings to Ashford International.

Journey times will be increased when using replacement buses.

Engineering work is taking place overnight between London Bridge and Norwood Junction ending Friday morning, closing some lines.

From approximately 23:30 until the end of service on Monday to Thursday evenings, trains to and from London Bridge will be altered.

The 23:20 London Victoria to London Bridge train will run non-stop from Streatham Hill to London Bridge. A replacement bus will run from Streatham Hill to London Bridge, calling at intermediate stations
The 23:58 London Bridge to Streatham Hill train will not run. A replacement bus will run from London Bridge, departing at 23:58, to Streatham Hill via Sydenham, calling at normal stations
The 00:01 London Bridge to Selhurst train will depart at 00:04 (on Tuesday to Friday mornings) and run later
The 00:35 London Bridge to East Croydon train (on Tuesday to Friday mornings) will be diverted and will only call at Norwood Junction. A replacement bus will run from London Bridge and East Croydon via Sydenham, departing at 00:35 (on Tuesday to Friday mornings)

Engineering work is taking place overnight between Brighton / Hove and Worthing / West Worthing / Littlehampton, closing some lines.

From approximately 23:30 until the end of service on Monday to Thursday evenings, trains from London Victoria to Worthing will be diverted to terminate at Brighton.

Buses will replace trains between Brighton / Hove and Worthing / West Worthing.

The 22:20 Southampton Central to Brighton train will not call at Southwick or Portslade. A replacement bus will run from Worthing to Brighton calling at these stations.

The 22:52 Portsmouth Harbour to Brighton train will terminate at Littlehampton. A replacement bus will run from Littlehampton to Brighton, departing at 23:53 and calling at all stations.

The escalators will be out of order between platforms 13 and 14 and the main concourse from 15:39 on 05/04/2026 until further notice at London Bridge station.
Additional Information:
This affects some Southern services towards East Croydon, Caterham / Tattenham Corner, Epsom, Selhurst & Beckenham Junction. Please speak to station staff for further assistance
Sanderstead: Ticket Barriers not in use

The automatic ticket barriers are not in use at Sanderstead station.
Southampton Central: Lifts out of order

The lifts will be out of order between Platform 1, 2 & 3 and the footbridge from 05:52 on 25/04/2026 until 23:59 on 26/05/2026 at Southampton Central station.
Additional Information:
Step-free access is still available to platform 1 via the Blechynden Terrance entrance. Step-free access is still available to platforms 2, 3 and 4 via the Western Esplanade (Premium and Short Stay Car Park) entrance. Accessible taxis are available at both entrances for customers to transfer between entrances, if required.
The lift on Platform 2 & 3 affects Southern services towards Brighton, and which terminate at Southampton Central, South Western Railway services towards Weymouth and London Waterloo, Great Western Railway services towards Portsmouth Harbour, and Cross Country services towards Bournemouth and Newcastle.
Please speak to station staff for further assistance.
